    Planning is underway for the 2011 Breast Cancer Quilt Auction to benefit the Sutter Cancer Center’s breast cancer treatment and research programs. Auction Day has been set for November 5, 2011 when a live auction of 50 or so extraordinary quilts and quilted fabric art will begin at 10 a.m. Auction Day will also see the closing of the silent auction which is scheduled to open on October 1. Throughout October 2011 the Sutter Cancer Center will be filled with an incredible display of nearly 500 quilts. During the month the public is welcome to visit the Cancer Center to enjoy the quilt display and place silent auction bids on their favorite quilts. The Cancer Center is located at 2800 L Street in Sacramento and is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day.

    This will be the fifth quilt auction held to benefit the Sutter Cancer Center. The four previous auctions raised more than $425,000 for Sutter’s programs. In total, quilters from all over Northern California donated more than 1900 quilts and quilted fabric art for the event. The variety of quilts donated in past years demonstrates the vitality and versatility of today’s quilt makers and textile artists. We expect the 2011 auction will include everything from fabric postcards to king-sized bed quilts, from quilt designs reminiscent of past generations to quilted works of textile art that appear to be oil on canvas.

    The auction will accept quilt donations from September 1, 2010 until September 1, 2011. Quilts may be of any size, color or design. The quilts must be new, quilted, not tied, and have a 4” hanging sleeve on the back. Most area quilt shops will accept donated quilts and each local quilt guild is expected to have an auction representative to collect quilts as well.

    More information about the auction, including a list of participating shops and guilds will be posted on this website shortly. As we begin to collect donated quilts, we will post their pictures here for you to enjoy. Until then, please enjoy images from the 2008 auction.
