History
Sutter Medical Center , Sacramento (SMCS) is a community-based, not-for-profit hospital committed to improving the health and well-being of the communities we serve. This commitment goes beyond the care that we provide within the walls of the hospital. We work with many community-based agencies to reach the uninsured, underserved and underinsured with quality preventive care and health care services.

Each year, SMCS reinvests into the community via the Community Grants Program and funds organizations committed to providing unique community-based health care services. These organizations often address underlying challenges to better reach those without access to the health care services. Other programs offer life skills, job skills, health care and health-related services for both the prevention and treatment of illnesses. Often, these programs bridge gaps in culturally and linguistically sensitive ways. Through our grants program, SMCS seeks to change and better our community through innovative and collaborative partnerships and demonstration of solution oriented best practices.

Our Community Benefit Committee is comprised of diverse community leaders and medical and health care professionals, who help identify the most pressing needs and worthy, innovative and effective programs that meet those needs. To date, SMCS has reinvested over $14 million in community programs – improving the lives and health of countless residents of the Sacramento region.

Funding in 2009 will focus on:

  1. Assisting local non profit agencies to stabilize their core programs through a Program Sustainability Grant,
  2. Special projects that address the priority needs identified in the RFP (Access to Appropriate Services, Youth Services and Community Improvement), and
  3. Continuing funding for Community Collaborative Projects that have, and are demonstrating notable success or promise during the 2008 grant year.

Funding Available:

  • Approximately $1 Million will be available for 10-15 sustainability or special project grants and 4-6 collaborative grants
