Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento

In fact, there are several new investments and clinical programs being launched at Sutter Memorial in 2005-06, including OB Online Registration, offering convenience for moms and allowing Sutter hospitals the ability to anticipate arrivals and expedite the admission process of patients presenting in active labor.

We continue to grow our capabilities and scope of medical services at Sutter Memorial Hospital. In 2004 alone, we were the first area health facility to offer residents the new carotid artery stent medical procedure since its approval by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA). This technique prevents stroke by clearing the carotid artery of fatty debris. We continue Women’s Heart Advantage, our preventive educational initiative launched in 2004 for women to reduce their risk of developing heart disease -- which has become the leading cause of premature death among women. In 2003, Sutter Memorial Hospital and Sutter General Hospital became the first hospitals on the West Coast to begin utilizing the electronic ICU with advanced video and electronic monitoring of our most critically ill patients. In the two years since doctors and nurses have operated this remote high-tech surveillance system, patient outcomes have improved.
We have not made any decisions regarding the future use of the Sutter Memorial Hospital site, and its future will be determined in close consultation with the City Council and East Sacramento neighborhood leaders. Sutter Health is committed to redevelopment and reuse of the site, which would not increase traffic intensity above existing levels.
