Injuries caused by trauma or wear may require correction through minimally invasive or traditional surgery to remove debris, reattach or repair torn tendons and ligaments, or correct cartilage defects and other joint irregularities. Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento (SMCS) orthopaedic surgeons perform repair and reconstruction surgery on the large joints (ankles, knees, hips, wrists, elbows and shoulders) and the more delicate foot joints.

Sutter offers access to the latest advances in diagnosis and care, allowing surgeons to use minimally invasive techniques for many of the conditions treated. Though the ability to use minimally invasive surgical techniques depends on the condition and patient treated, less invasive surgery typically shortens recovery times and reduces the risk of complications when compared to traditional open surgeries. The smaller incisions also help minimize scarring.

At SMCS, patients receive care by highly skilled and experienced surgeons supported by teams of experienced technicians, nurses and physical therapists who specialize in caring for orthopaedic patients. Patients treated at SMCS receive focused attention from initial consultation, through surgery and recovery, and onto rehabilitation and follow-up care.
