Sutter Center for Psychiatry
Sutter Center for Psychiatry (SCP) places the patient first and always. We provide compassionate care, showing respect and dignity to the individual while focusing on safety and involvement of the individual and their family. Our recovery focused services empowers and encourages the patient and family to be active participants in treatment decisions and development of skills and tools to support them in their daily life.
Recovery Model Approach
Sutter Center for Psychiatry embraces the Recovery Model approach. This model is a treatment concept wherein a service environment is designed such that patients have primary control over decisions about their own care and they partner with care providers in order to identify and meet their treatment goals. This is in contrast to most traditional models of service delivery, in which consumers are instructed what to do, or simply have things done for them with minimal, if any, consultation for their opinions. The Recovery Model is based on the concepts of hope, empowerment, self-responsibility, resiliency, and having a meaningful role in life. Using this approach, an individual with mental illness has greater control and choice in their treatment, and is empowered to live a self-directed life while striving to reach their full potential. By partnering with patients, SCP attempts to provide a holistic view that focuses on the individual person, not just their symptoms. SCP helps to bring the message that recovery from severe mental illness is possible, what it looks like for each individual may vary, and together we can build a road-map to help guide people through their recovery process.
