Every three years since 1999, quilters from throughout California have generously created beautiful quilts for the auction. In total, the past three auctions raised more than $300,000 for Sutter Cancer Center programs. Some 1400 quilts were donated to those auctions. In addition to fund raising, other benefits of the auction include:
- Providing emotional support to cancer patients and their families by expressing care and concern through the quilts
- Providing quilters an opportunity to memorialize a loved one lost to cancer or to celebrate the success of surviving a breast cancer experience
- Promoting breast cancer awareness
- Promoting quilting in the community through the quilt display
The auction committee is made up of volunteers from throughout Northern California. As many as 16 area quilt guilds and numerous quilt shops and quilting professionals also offer their time and resources in support of the auction. The motivating factor behind the auction’s success is the vast number of us who have been touched in some way by this terrible disease. Working together, with love and our enthusiasm for quilting, we will make a difference. We have to make a difference because breast cancer patients, their families and health professionals are counting on us.
