Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are available 24 hours daily to provide pharmaceutical support for emergency, ambulatory, and hospitalized patients. Before licensure, clinical training for pharmacists is extremely intensive. Using the latest technology, pharmacists provide individualized review of a patient's medication therapy including dose management and regimen review. Areas of specialty include pharmaceutical management for critical care, ambulatory care, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, geriatrics, pulmonology, cardiology, pharmacokinetics, pediatrics, nephrology, orthopedics, transplants, and high-risk neonatal patients.
Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento also includes a specialized outpatient pharmacy that provides services to patients of skilled nursing facilities, and the special needs of patients within the Sutter Hospice and Frail-Elderly programs. Care and attention are given to each patient's circumstance, history and needs. The pharmacist staff provides monitoring and management of medication regimens including drug interactions to ensure safety.
